„Mindspace: Mental Health in Youth Work“ is an international training course for youth workers/trainers/peer educators based on a partnership of 4 organizations from the following countries: Serbia (Centar „Zvezda“ and „Moj krug“), North Macedonia (Ekvalis) and Germany (Roter Baum).
The training will last for 7 days dedicated towards the implementation of activities between 12 - 18 September 2023 (2 travel days included). The location for the activities is Sremski Karlovci, a small picturesque town, just 12 kilometers away from Serbia’s second largest city and less than from an hour away from the capital of Serbia.
About the project
The group present at the training will consist of 16 youth workers, peer educators and trainters, ages 18 and up from each of the aforementioned countries; 8 from Serbia, 4 from North Macedonia and 4 from Germany.
During this training we will tackle the topic of mental health and wellbeing of young people through implementing a tailor-made methodology and the ways to promote it through youth work.
„Mindspace: Mental Health in Youth Work“ is a pioneering project created by "Inprocess" with the objective of providing youth workers, trainers, and peer educators with proficient training skills pertaining to mental health. Recognizing the importance of mental health in youth development, this project underscores the need for well-equipped professionals in the field.
The project has been meticulously designed to address various facets of mental health regarding youth. It focuses on instilling a comprehensive understanding of the concept of mental health, shedding light on the common mental health challenges faced by young people. Additionally, it aims to elevate the level of communication with the youth regarding these issues, ensuring that they feel heard, understood, and supported.
"Mindspace" integrates the use of practical tools and methodologies in its training. The purpose is to familiarize professionals with the methodology developed as a part of this training, as well as the hands-on approaches that they can implement in their work, making them more efficient and effective in dealing with mental health concerns.
The project also prompts an examination of the role of youth workers in promoting young people's mental health, exploring its scope and limitations. This understanding is critical in enabling these professionals to maximize their impact while recognizing the boundaries of their role.
Finally, one of the unique aspects of the "Mindspace" project is its international scope. Participants have the opportunity to discuss good practices and challenges with colleagues from other countries, fostering an exchange of ideas that enriches their professional knowledge and skills.
Upon the completion of the program participants will gain practical skills and knowledge that they can use to support young people's mental health and wellbeing in their day-to-day youth work. They will also have the opportunity to network with other youth workers, share experiences, and exchange examples of good practices.
Trainers:
Experienced mental health professionals and youth workers, well-versed in working with young people and other youth workers, will conduct the training. Participants will have the chance to benefit from their extensive knowledge and actively participate in interactive exercises and discussions alongside their peers, fostering a nurturing and cooperative atmosphere.
Objectives of the training:
- Comprehending the fundamental principle of mental health in youth work;
- Becoming acquainted with applicable tools and the developed methodology;
- Improve upon existing level of trainer and youth worker skills;
- Grasping the prevalent mental health issues experienced by the youth;
- Enhancing the level of communication with young people regarding mental health;
Costs related to travel (reimbursment up to 180 Euro), accomodation, meals and working materials are covered by the organisers.
